Trans Hex Marine is committed to ensure that exploration and mining activities on the seafloor are carried out in a responsible manner.

Transhex Marine is committed to ensure that exploration and mining activities on the seafloor are carried out in a responsible manner that complies with the relevant legal and environmental requirements. A full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and approved Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) is therefor in place and enforced.

Environmental audits is conducted bi-annually

by appointed SLR Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SLR) as the “independent person” with relevant environmental auditing expertise to undertake the environmental audit of the EA Conditions and EMPr in accordance with Regulations.

This review of EA Conditions and EMPr mitigation measures

and review of documentary evidence by Transhex Marine is submitted as an Environmental Audit Report to the DMRE.

Over the last 4 years the levels of compliance with the EMPr

were deemed to be sufficient. No short-comings of the EMPr were identified.

Continued biological monitoring of all mining activities

within a block is undertaken bi-annually, until these areas are considered to have recovered from the disturbance. The classical approach to monitoring the recovery from a disturbance of constrained seabed areas is multiple Before/After/Control Impact (BACI) assessments. From existing data, it is clear that the time to recovery for a mined area is around 8 to 10 years.
