Southern Africa

Trans Hex Marine’s mining area in South Africa is located in Sea Concession 2C&3C just south of the Orange River mouth that was a major point source for diamonds. In excess of 200 000 carats of gem quality diamonds are yearly extracted from this concession in water depths of around 130m.

Trans Hex Marine’s diamond exploration and mining

The marine placer deposits are the result of river transport of diamonds eroded from kimberlites in the hinterland. Since the Cretaceous period, it is assessed that the top 1000m of kimberlites on the Kaapvaal craton have been eroded away.

It is estimated that this resulted in the deposition of around 3bn carats in the ocean.

The probable reserve base spanning the mining licences where Trans Hex Marine is currently active, Projects a life of mine in excess of 6 years. The current inferred resource base should likely further increase the life of mine by at least 4 years with additional infill sampling.

The sampling vessel “The Explorer” is engaged on a full time basis to further increase the life of mine.
